Apple Puppets

  1. Choose an apple for the doll's head; the bigger the better-the carved fruit will shrink to about two thirds its original size.
  2. Have an adult peel and core the apple. Carve a face on one side, using the knife to hollow out eyes and to make a slit for the mouth. For a nose, cut a triangle that extends from between the eyes toward the mouth. Store the carved apple in a dry spot until it dries and shrinks.
  3. Once the apple is dry, use colored markers to enhance the eyes, lips and cheeks
  4. Cut the corner of the fabric in the shape of a triangle. Remaining fabric will be used for body.
  5. Cut yarn for the strands of hair and tie loosely in the middle.
  6. Gently, push the cored apple down onto the popsicle stick.
  7. Wrap the fabric around the Popsicle stick so that it extends beyond the bottom. Have an adult secure the fabric with hot glue so that the cloth lies down.
  8. Have an adult glue the wool yarn onto the head, and the hat, onto the hair.

Tips:
It generally takes two weeks for the doll's head to dry (longer in humid climates)
